Sexual Health & Counseling

Sexual Health

"A healthy sex life is an essential part of a healthy life."

Sexual health is a holistic concept that encompasses an individual’s physical, emotional, psychological, and relationship well-being. Problems affecting sexual health and intimacy can have a significant impact on quality of life, self-confidence, relationships, and overall well-being.

At our clinic, women’s sexual health is addressed through a scientific, ethical, and confidential approach. Since every patient has a unique medical history, expectations, and needs, evaluation and treatment plans are tailored individually.

Sexual Health Assessment

Sexual dysfunction may be associated with hormonal changes, gynecological conditions, chronic health problems, medications, psychological factors, or relationship dynamics.

During the initial assessment, the following may be evaluated:

  • Detailed medical history
  • Gynecological examination
  • Necessary laboratory tests and hormone assessments
  • Relationship dynamics
  • Lifestyle and stress factors

These factors are evaluated together to identify possible underlying causes and develop an individualized treatment plan.

Vaginismus

Vaginismus is a condition characterized by involuntary tightening of the vaginal muscles, which can make sexual intercourse painful, difficult, or impossible. It is a treatable sexual health condition.

Depending on the individual needs of the patient, treatment may include:

  • Detailed assessment
  • Accurate and evidence-based information
  • Assessment of the pelvic floor muscles
  • Exercise programs when appropriate
  • Individualized medical approaches
  • Partner involvement in the treatment process

A gradual treatment approach is developed based on the underlying causes and individual needs.

Low Sexual Desire (Decreased Libido)

Reduced sexual desire may be associated with hormonal changes, menopause, the postpartum period, chronic health conditions, medications, stress, fatigue, or relationship difficulties.

The evaluation may include an assessment of:

  • Hormonal status
  • Thyroid function
  • Menopausal symptoms
  • Current medications
  • Psychological factors
  • Relationship dynamics

These factors are considered together to determine the most appropriate treatment options for each patient.

Painful Intercourse (Dyspareunia)

Pain during sexual intercourse is a common concern that can significantly affect quality of life, yet many women may find it difficult to discuss.

Possible causes include:

  • Vaginal dryness
  • Infections
  • Endometriosis
  • Pelvic floor muscle spasms
  • Postpartum changes
  • Menopause
  • Changes following surgery

A detailed evaluation is performed to identify the underlying cause of pain before an appropriate treatment plan is developed.

Sexual Health During Menopause

As estrogen levels decline during menopause, women may experience symptoms such as:

  • Vaginal dryness
  • Burning or irritation
  • Recurrent vaginal infections
  • Painful intercourse
  • Decreased sexual desire

When developing a treatment plan, the patient’s overall health, expectations, and medical history are taken into consideration. When appropriate, local treatments, hormonal or non-hormonal options, and lifestyle recommendations may be considered.

Postpartum Sexual Health

Hormonal changes, breastfeeding, fatigue, and the recovery of the pelvic floor following pregnancy and childbirth can temporarily affect sexual health and intimacy.

Postpartum assessment may address:

  • Pelvic floor health
  • Vaginal recovery
  • The process of returning to sexual activity
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Contraceptive options

These and other concerns are addressed to provide comprehensive postpartum counseling and support.

Recurrent Vaginal Infections

Frequently recurring yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, or changes in the vaginal microbiome can negatively affect sexual health and quality of life.

The evaluation may take into consideration:

  • Possible causes of infection
  • Vaginal flora
  • Hygiene practices
  • Dietary habits
  • Coexisting medical conditions

Based on these factors, individualized treatment and prevention recommendations are developed.

Sexual Counseling

Sexual counseling is a professional process that aims to support an individual’s sexual health, body awareness, and communication with their partner.

Counseling may include support and education on topics such as:

  • Sexual health education
  • Strengthening communication between partners
  • Addressing misconceptions that may affect sexual health and intimacy
  • Sexual health during pregnancy and after childbirth
  • Sexual health during menopause
  • Body image and self-confidence
  • Evidence-based information about maintaining a healthy sex life

Support is provided according to each individual’s needs and concerns.
